About the Artwork
A piece about defiance and resilience, made initially in response to the black experience worldwide but grown to stand for any marginalised, vilified or defaced community.
About the artist
Kay Gasei (b.1991) is a British Zambian artist based in London. His work explores narratives and myths. He uses symbolism, recurring motifs and nondescript characters in abstract spaces to act out these narratives. He has a natural inclination to using small details in his work, which when found create a feeling of intimacy with the audience. Mystery and a haunting feeling are what he tries to ignite in the audience when looking at sections of his pieces as they try to gauge how each element relates with another to gradually coalesce the narrative in the viewers mind.
