Caroline's paintings are predominantly a mixture of acrylic and oil on canvas/ linen, or primed boards. Working initially with acrylic, charcoal, pen, pencil, anything that is at hand at the time and allows for a free and creative layering of paint initially to make marks on the white surface. She then builds into this with oil paints as the final layers of work. Most of the works are then varnished to replicate a link to my love for renaissance classical painting.
Caroline's pieces provide a link with colour and memory and carries to her emotional connection to them. Each work is deeply personal to her, and for many years she has struggled to part with them, somewhat feeling exposed at their viewing, similarly to writing in a diary. Caroline is not a prolific painter, she finds energy for each piece can take months/years to fully manifest into a tangible painting. Caroline paints for herself, for her mind and for the opportunity to express herself without the use of words. She trained at Brockenhurst college for a Btec in Art and design, I also then undertook a Foundation in fine art at Cornwall college at the age of 19.
