About
Miranda Donovan is a London-based British, Dutch artist whose figurative works and low relief paintings have been exhibited in Europe, the US and in the UK including at The Public (selected from the Frank Cohen Collection) and The New Art Gallery, Walsall. Her work can be found in notable collections including that of Cheyenne Westphal, Oliver Barker, Fru Tholstrup, Frank Cohen, the Mugrabi’s, the Khalili brothers, Mark Hix, Stephen Webster, Jeremy Clarkson, the Groucho Club, Soho House and House of Koko. Having studied Fine Arts at the École supérieure d’art d’Aix-en-Provence and The City and Guilds of London Art School, Donovan showed with the Lazarides Gallery for nine years. More recent collaborations have included working with Mark Hix on several projects, a Branch Arts: The Art Room project at Selfridges, an invitation by Stephen Webster to exhibit in his gallery space in Beverley Hills, LA as well as exhibiting in multiple group shows as a product of working directly with curators. Donovan’s primary focus is the bringing together of polarities; man and nature, the urban and rural, order and chaos, beauty and decay, polarities which are intended to act as allegories for differences in the wider world around us and to, in turn, convey the possibility of a harmonious fusion. Through this exploration of what it is to feel and to be human Donovan’s message is ultimately one of hope as without hope Donovan would argue what is the point.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
Using building materials combined with polymers Donovan has created a miniature brick wall. A sense of order is conveyed through the linear, geometric, brick wall pattern whilst chaos is illustrated by broken up, in parts, decayed brickwork and graffiti slogans. Alongside this and in the Spirt of Boudicca the message with this image is one of triumphant victory in the face of adversity.
