Notes

About

(b. 1982. Southampton) Driven by an interest in psychology, sexuality and transcendence, my large scale oil paintings explore themes of human drive and connection, the complexities of female desire and the search for ecstatic experience. I draw inspiration from historical and contemporary painting, research into ideas of the dangerous woman, female authority and desire, and the human need throughout history to find escape through the transcendental, in religion, sport, spirituality, sex, drugs, music, war and nature.

Alongside painting I am also a musician and wrote and performed with Band of Skulls for over ten years. My work is held in a number of private collections worldwide. I currently live and work in London.

Education

I graduated from Wimbledon School of Art, London with a BA Hons in Fine Art in 2004. In 2022 I completed 3 years with Turps Art School on the Correspondence Course.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artworks

My more recent work focuses on how apocalyptic imagery has been called on and created throughout times, to articulate collective anxieties and to act as a warning or yearning for salvation. I enjoy playing with how painting can represent both the physical and the metaphysical, and its ability to conjure the struggle between the spirit of the times - our daily life, societal pressures and current world catastrophes, and the spirit of the depths - our inner world, hidden desires and the collective unconscious.
