About
Selena Scott (b. 2000) is an emerging artist based in Cambridge, dedicated to redefining the portrayal of Black individuals using oil painting—an art form traditionally confined to perpetuating Western ideals. Beyond the boundaries of oil portraiture, Selena uses film, textiles, and animation to explore the facets of Black identity through the lens of trauma, racism, and colonialism. Drawing inspiration from her Caribbean heritage, Selena uses loaded imagery and colour to construct narratives that challenge colonial conditioning and encourage introspection. Building upon extensive research, her work investigates the legacy of colonialism through personal stories, whilst staying committed to channelling empathy and sensitivity.
