About 

Michelle Conway (1968 Upstate NY) has been living in Ireland the past 34 years. Painting is her way of experiencing time in an increasingly blurry reality. Her work uncovers traces of loss and longing with an understanding that this is both ancient and eternal.

February 25th - March 21st “I AM” a selected group of international female artists exhibiting for an International Woman’s Day auction in support of The Hepatitis C Trust. Art on a Postcard, London 

2020 - January 2021  
“Summer Exhibition”, Royal Academy of Art, London selected from 18,000 submissions, her work was shown in Gallery VIII curated by David Remfry (RA) 

2017 - 2019 
“Art-Letter Home”, 15 British and Irish artists selected for the China Academy of Art and continuing tour through museums in China. Organised by Robert Priseman, co-ordinated by ChenKai Wu and Professor Yan Chen, and curated by Jin Shijian.   

‘Art – Letter Home’ began (2017) in Hangzhou at the China Academy of Arts, before moving on to the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Chongqing this December-January 2019, then to the Suzhou Art Museum March-April 2019 and finally the Shenyang Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in May-June 2019. Seminars were held during the exhibitions in Hangzhou and Chongqing. A 509page book has also been published to accompany the project. (see photo attached in supporting material) 

2018  
“The Drawing Room”, Sid Motion Gallery, London, an ongoing platform showcasing recent works of artists who have contributed to the exhibitions programme, curated by Sid Motion. 

2017  
Sluice Biennial, @PIY Paintlounge,  London, UK curated by Paula MacArthur. 
PIYPaintLounge is a collaborative project between paint Britain and Paint Union which aims to bring as many painters as possible together to discuss and celebrate painting in all its many and various forms as part of the Sluice Biennial 2017 in Hackney.

Awards 

Michelle was also longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize Exhibition 2016 and Anthology 2014 @Charlie Smith Gallery, London.  

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork 

Michelle's work began by selecting a photo from hundreds she has taken from her place of birth over the past 20 years. Paintings are wiped back until traces of experience are uncovered.
