Notes

About

My paintings attempt to depict the drama of the urban street. Some pieces are compositions based on observations of everyday life. Other works comprise ‘portraits' of lost places and human stories observed on the streets of Newham, in East London. My work takes inspiration from the lived realities of people in contemporary society and attempts to chronicle the changing environment of this part of East London where I've lived since the early 1970s. My paintings are characterised by attention to detail, vivid colour and an intentional technique drawn from using multiple layers of transparent glaze, which enables luminous colour to be provided. My work can be seen on https://ferhafarooqui.weebly.com

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

My work captures the drama of the city environment and most particularly aspects of east London. I was delighted to be invited to produce a second series of 4 small painted postcards to mark International Women’s Day, in aid of The Hepatitis C Trust. The paintings I produced celebrate women in a variety of everyday settings and navigating the contemporary urban environment.
