ABOUT THE ARTIST LAOLU SENBANJO 

Laolu Senbanjo otherwise known as “Laolu NYC,” is a Nigerian bred, Brooklyn based multidisciplinary artist with a wide-spanning background with music and performing arts, visual art, human rights law, and activism. Having started his career in law in Nigeria, Laolu has always sought out to help others reveal their truth. 

Laolu has worked with Beyoncé, Burna Boy, J.Balvin, Serena Williams, Swizz Beatz, Alicia Keys, Bad Bunny, Lupita Nyongo. Laolu has graced the covers of The New York Times and had features in The Fader, Vogue, Vice, CNN and BBC. His ever growing list of collaborations include, Llardo, The Recording Academy, Parkwood, Nike, Equinox Fitness, Belvedere, Bvlgari, TED and more.

Laolu is guided by the idea that all things; be it paper, walls, people, buildings, cars — are his canvas. Laolu seeks to leave a part of his art and Yoruba heritage wherever he goes through one canvas at time.

My artwork delves into the concept of sustainable community, with a particular emphasis on the vibrant growth and health of individuals within the community. The use of green color symbolizes these aspects, reflecting the objectives of the farm 'Harlem Grown' and its commitment to fostering community growth and vibrancy.

The faces depicted on the side of the shoe represent collective responsibility and unity, highlighting the idea of individuals coming together to achieve common goals and make positive changes within their community.
